Mindful Self-Compassion

Seminar led by Christopher Germer

1. Juni 2012 - 3. Juni 2012

in Hamburg.

How would you feel if somebody told you that you were “average”—average appearance, average intelligence, or average skill? Most probably it would hurt your feelings. That’s a natural reaction, but how would you feel if you were kind and thoughtful toward yourself—at least as kind as you are to others—when you notice how you are falling short of your expectations?

And how do you respond when difficulties appear in your life, perhaps some unhappiness at work, a health concern, or a relationship problem? In such situations, it’s easy for us to start an internal battle against what we’re feeling. “I don’t want to feel this way!”

This workshop will provide simple tools for responding in a kind, compassionate way whenever we suffer, fail, or feel inadequate--essential steps toward living a happier, more fulfilling life. You’ll learn:

• how to stop being so hard on yourself
• how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
• how to motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
• how to transform your relationships, both old and new
• mindfulness and self-compassion exercises for everyday life
• how to become your own best teacher

We will take a journey into mindfulness and self-compassion, including meditation, group exercises, lecture, research, and discussion. Special emphasis will be given to the art of loving-kindness (metta) meditation. The program is a condensed adaptation of the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training program developed by Chris Germer and Kristin Neff (see www.MindfulSelfCompassion.org and www.Self-Compassion.org) .
