This retreat will be a deep experiential dive into the cultivation of mindfulness and its applications in everyday living, from the personal to the societal to the global. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) emphasizes that the ultimate meditation practice is life itself and how we are in relationship to it moment by moment.
In this 5-day retreat led by Jon Kabat-Zinn – internationally known for his work in bringing mindfulness practices into the mainstream of medicine, health care, and the wider society – we will learn to cultivate greater mindfulness and heartfulness, clarity and balance in a time of major geo-political upheaval, uncertainty, and fear. The retreat is based on the forms of practice that lie at the heart of MBSR, an approach that Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues worldwide have been engaged in and researching for almost 40 years.
During the program, we will engage in periods of intensive formal meditation practice in silence, interspersed with group dialogue and informal talks by Kabat-Zinn. We explore the possibility of growing more deeply into ourselves in ways that can allow us to live life as if it really mattered, in the only moment we ever have – this one. We also come to understand more profoundly how we fit into, belong, and can take principled embodied and ethical action in the larger world of our society, the body politic, and the planet, as well as in the domain of our own personal lives. We will specifically use the gateways of the senses to wake up to and increasingly inhabit the domain of awareness itself, along with its manifestations in silence and stillness, in motion and language, in compassion and kindness, and in acting skillfully in the world.
Both professionals and laypeople are welcome, as are newcomers and longtime practitioners of mindfulness.
